MarketView Setup Tests

Java Runtime
 
1. Check Java
  Click the button to load an applet that requires Java version 1.4.1. If the applet detects that Java is not installed on your machine, the applet is configured to automatically download and install the correct version of Java. Once the installation steps are complete, return to this checklist to retest the applet.
  SUCCESS:
The applet loads showing a small green box with the words, "Java Installed." Proceed to the next item.
FAILURE:
The applet does not load showing a small gray box with a red "X".
 
Basic HTTP Connectivity
 
2. Check Roundtrip to Server without Java
  Click the button to test your machine's authority to issue a request to and receive a response from our data server via port 80 without Java.
  SUCCESS:
New window loads showing words, "HTTP test completed at (date & time...)"
FAILURE:
Standard browser error page appears indicating "Page not Found".
 
Java Web Start      Java Applet
 
3a. Check Resource Download
  Checks your machine's authority to download securely signed jar files and launch a java application.
  SUCCESS:
Application resources download, prompt to accept secure application, green window appears with success message.
FAILURE:
Java Web Start download Error appears. Click "Details" button for information regarding the error.

3b. Check Server on Port 6487
  Determines whether the java application can directly communicate with our data server using port number 6487.
  SUCCESS:
A green window appears with text indicating the server was successfully contacted. Launch MarketView with port 6487.
FAILURE:
A gray window appears with text indicating the server was NOT successfully contacted.

3c. Check Server using HTTP
  Determines whether the java application can communicate with our data server over HTTP.
  SUCCESS:
A green window appears with text indicating the server was successfully contacted. Launch MarketView using HTTP.
FAILURE:
A gray window appears with text indicating the server was NOT successfully contacted.

   
4a. Check Resource Download
  Checks your machine's authority to download securely signed jar files and launch a java applet.
  SUCCESS:
Application resources download, prompt to accept secure application, green window appears with success message.
FAILURE:
On following page, "Loading Java Applet Failed..." appears in lower left of browser and red "X" appears in gray box.

4b. Check Server on Port 6487
  Determines whether the applet can directly communicate with our data server using port number 6487.
  SUCCESS:
A green window appears with text indicating the server was successfully contacted. Launch MarketView with port 6487.
FAILURE:
A gray window appears with text indicating the server was NOT successfully contacted.

4c. Check Server using HTTP
  Determines whether the applet can communicate with our data server over HTTP.
  SUCCESS:
A green window appears with text indicating the server was successfully contacted. Launch MarketView using HTTP.
FAILURE:
A gray window appears with text indicating the server was NOT successfully contacted.
